I bought two large bottles of barrel aged crafts at my local health food store in Hilo. The first one I didn’t care for. This one, really pretty good. This is a Belgian style, top fermenting ale, barrel aged and at 10% abv…..a wowzer of a kick. Very nice light amber color and the biggest white head I have seen in a very long time.
Here is the commercial description:
This Tripel was born from the old world Belgian technique of barrel aging and the new world’s craft brewing innovation. With its pale golden color and uniquely refreshing taste, this big, flavorful, and complex brew has a subtle herbal hop character combined with the tropical fruit and spice notes of its special Belgian yeast.
Notes of spice and tropical fruit. Ale aged in oak barrels. This is a a big, flavorful and complex beer. A special Belgian yeast strain adds tropical fruit and spice notes to the crisp dry ale, while Saaz hops add a subtle herbal finish. I found this very close to my favorite ale from Japan, the Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale. This one doesn’t quite get there, but hey, I don’t expect to be bowled over so often drinking new beers. This is a winner and I would buy it again.
Pour this one from the side. I wasted some as the head overflowed big time pouring as one should. The head is substantial. Enjoy this one and impress your friends with the cork and bottle reminiscent of champagne.
