I live close to a small town of 500 on the coast of the Big Island Hawaii. There is a little store there I use from time to time and this ale was there. This was probably pushed off on the proprietor by his distributor because the holidays are over. Still pricey though and I should have gotten it cheaper. That said, I like it so I don’t feel robbed of the $9 for one large bottle.
First taste was too sweet and I didn’t like it. I always have one cardinal rule though and that is to never judge a beer by the first taste. It settled in to very nice, robust dark, flavorful ale. The only beer I ever backtracked on my rule was the rice beer from Japan. The first taste leaves you with a strong sake taste that then sets up the rest of the bottle with that impression.
This is Belgian style ale and is 8.5% abv. Packs a delicious punch and I have gotten slowly fonder sip by sip.

This one got pretty good reviews by the public and I have to agree. I would buy this if it were available again. This is my first try for anything from this brewery in San Diego. This darkest of the dark variety ale, has loads of flavor and the high abv kick, to start off any holiday celebration. Now that the season has passed, I just use the buzz to kick off my day in a holiday spirited way. Try this one if you find it.
