Found a limited edition from Maui Brewing Co yesterday in town. I had been waiting for this and one other promised from them. This 6 pack was twelve bucks so it is not a cheap brew. It is however a good brew in the German tradition. First taste is very hoppy and reminds me of an IPA. Unlike many IPA’s , it settles down to a fine, full hopped tasting German style beer.
Here is what the brewer has to say about it.
Kihei Kolsch: 5.2% ABV, 42 IBUs
Spring 2015 ReleaseFew beers are as stylistically unique as Kolsch and even fewer have such strong community ties and tradition. Kolsch has a rich brewing history that has defined Koln. Brewed to celebrate our new craft brewery location “Kihei Kolsch” embodies our sense of place and deep appreciation for the island that created Maui Brewing Co.
Kihei Kolsch is a light, crisp and flavorful offering, perfect for a warm Maui day in our Kihei biergarten or at the beach! This Kolsch is brewed with the lightest European Pilsner malts, a blend of traditional German noble hops and spicy, citrusy hops from the Pacific Northwest.
