I found this on sale at my local KTA supermarket in Hilo Hawaii. At under $6 on sale, it was half the cost of a six pack of stout from other craft brewers like Sierra Nevada. I hadn’t tried this one yet and was pleasantly surprised. I had expected a slightly stronger version of the well know Guinness but it was another animal all together. This is a true stout and gone is the lava lamp fun pour of the more famous fare. I loved watching the mixing process in a pint glass. This one pours and stays pitch black. It is a lovely stout and I am going to make a beeline back to the store to pick some up before it goes off sale.
If you like dark beers and a good stout, this will not disappoint. It has also passed through the St. James gate in Ireland to get to me. I didn’t like the made under license versions of anything from Guinness so I came up with my slogan, If it doesn’t pass through St. James gate, it doesn’t pass my lips. Enjoy this one!
This is it, the one that started it all. Crafted to perfection for over 200 years, GUINNESS® EXTRA STOUT is descended from the definitive West India Porter known as Extra Superior Porter. Crack it open, and the first sip tastes as fresh as ever. The unmistakable deep-dark color, the crisp hint of roasted barley, the fresh breeze of hops, and the refreshing bite all make for the bittersweet reward.
Pure beauty. Pure GUINNESS®.
