It is harder and takes longer to brew a good lager. If you make a little mistake and get the taste a little off, you can’t hide it with more hops and bitterness like with ales. I wasn’t kind with my first review of an Island Lager. Now I can be, with this one from Maui Brewing Company. The sweet, doughy taste in the first one is not present in this fine brew.
Pours slightly cloudy pale gold with a nice, but not substantial head. This has a nice, mellow hops taste and ends up with a crisp, dry finish. That’s exactly what I want in a lager. This is one for the beach or a wide variety of food pairings. I learned to enjoy crisp lagers in Japan and they went so well with the food there. This is much better than the made under license versions for Japanese Lagers available here. I came to love the crisp lagers in Japan but don’t care for them made in Canada or LA. I would forsake those copies and go to the real deal with this brew from Maui.
Again, I like to judge a beer by would I buy it again and or consider it a daily or weekly fare? The answer on this one is a resounding yes to all. If I am grabbing for a Lager, this is top of my list for anything made in Hawaii.
Here is the commercial description:
Bikini Blonde Lager – What The Sailors Really Come To Shore For…
Our filtered Munich Helles Lager brewed with floral hops and Pilsner and Munich malts. This is the closest thing to an American Lager from Maui Brewing Co., but not skimpy of flavor. Bold, smooth and refreshing! Abv 5.1
