This is my own idea. Hawaiian taste along with Japanese sushi rice.
Seasoning mix for Chirashi Sushi is very convenient, useful and easy to buy in the USA. There are many ways to prepare foods with it. This recipe doesn’t require cooking skill. Just knife skills to carve out a bowl from the pineapple.
Ingredients
- Fresh pineapple
- Approximately 4 cups cooked rice
- Chirashi Sushi seasoning mix
- 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup chunk-ed pineapple fruit
- Small size frozen cooked shrimp
- 1 teaspoon Sake
- Pinch of salt
- Frozen peas (heat by microwave)
- Maraschino cherries (optional)
Directions
- Cut pineapple in half. Remove fruit part and make a “bowl”. Keep juice. Cut fruit into small bite size. Set aside.
- Thaw frozen cooked shrimp and sprinkle salt and sake. Set aside.
- “Nagatanien” brand Chirashi Sushi mix contains 2 packets. So use 1 packet only for this recipe.
- In a bowl, combine rice, sushi mix and pineapple juice . Add pineapple fruit and peas.
- Put sushi rice into the “pineapple bowl”. Put shrimp and cherry on top. Arrange green leaf of pineapple if you want.
Tip; Fresh pineapple has an enzyme to break down protein. So put shrimp on at the last minute before serving.
