I have long been a fan of Newcastle Brown Ale, so I was interested to try this offering. I didn’t care for the Cabbie Black and I am still waiting for the Scotch Ale to come from them soon.
Red Ale is a tough ale to do right. I have to say the very best so far was Ichigo Red Ale from Japan. Leave it to the Japanese to craft a hard to make brew and give it the attention to detail it takes to make something truly delicious.
Having said that, this one is ok for a more common, fairly priced version. This is a dark red ale with a nice light colored head. This is a resurrection of a limited edition they did in 2013. This is a bit sweet with caramel and malt notes with nice hops to finish. It is 4.5% abv and is a nicely strong tasting brew. Like many Reds, it is hard to keep going with too many of these as the taste is a bit harsh.
I believe that Newcastle Brown will be my go to usually but this is a nice change up and a worthy drink. I look forward to the Scotch Ale coming to Hawaii and will opine presently. Cheers.
