I live at the base of Mauna Kea, so Ale with that namesake, intrigues.
This American style Ale, pours golden with a light head. Ever so slightly cloudy but overall a very nice golden color. The taste is nice and light with a good balance of hops and sweet. Light to medium bodied with light carbonation. This American Pale Ale is perfect for the beach and quite nice with a range of food pairings. We will have a lot to say about Mehana Brewing so the food choices will be coming soon.
Mehana Mauna Kea Pale Ale is not a stand out beer in the very large ale dept. but I quite like it. Nothing really jumps out at you with this brew but the drink ability is high. This particular Pale Ale has a very smooth aftertaste that keeps it a very nice, light mouth feel as you continue into your second can. I recommend this one from this Hawaiian craft beer maker!
COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mauna Kea is an American Pale Ale. The malts and hops are from the Northwest. Actual whole hops are used to give the beer a touch of floral aroma and citrus flavor. Medium copper in color, with a superbly well-balanced hop flavor, it goes well with chicken, pasta, and red meat dishes. It is named for the most majestic mountain on the island.
