This one is going to go about as well as the Long Board Lager did, or didn’t, I should say. This seems to be the Ale equivalent to their LB Lager. Smell is fruity with a little hops joining in. Pour is golden and fairly clear. Medium white head with light carbonation.
It has that sweetness I didn’t like in the Long Board. That dough/sweet flavor is definitely not what I am looking for in Ale. I have to say it starts to leave me flat as I go and I find myself wanting to switch to something else. I would love a nice, rich Koko Brown from Kona right about now. Unfortunately, that is a seasonal I would have to drive to Kona to find it and I plan to do that soon.
I bought this Big Wave in a twelve pack variety box and I understand from talking with my local brewer, these are not local craft beers at all but are brewed and bottled in Portland. Well, that makes it a little easier to be hard on this brew. So, here it is. My big things are do you like it, would you buy it again and would you drink it regularly? My answer to all above is no. This is an uninspired ale that I will let slip into the “done that” category and move on.
Notes/Commercial Description:
Big Wave is light golden ale with a subtle fruitiness and delicate hop aroma. A smooth, easy drinking refreshing ale. The lightly roasted honey malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer and also gives a slight sweetness that is balanced out by our special blend of hops.
