Hoku Brewing Company has quietly popped onto the Honolulu brewing scene releasing two beers in the past couple of months. Unlike other breweries that open up with multiple beers, Hoku has decided to start slow, releasing one beer at a time. At the helm of the new brewery is Adam Boggs, a Colorado native, who followed his brewing passion all the way to Hawaii.
Boggs, a former software engineer, interviewed for the Hoku job while still living in Colorado. He had been volunteering and working part time at various breweries in his home state hoping to eventually make the leap into professional brewing. Fate would have it that a job posting for a head brewers position in Hawaii became available and Boggs jumped at the opportunity. It also didn’t hurt that his girlfriend lived in Hawaii working as a marine biologist whom he frequently visited.
Hale Brew goes on to talk about the restoration of the old Aloha Beer brewery and the plans for the future with Adam Boggs in charge of the brewing. Hoku brewery will be releasing beers slowly with a new one every six weeks or so. The first was Whale Spout Milk Stout.
If you happen to come across a Hoku beer give it a try, if you like it let them know. Boggs is always looking for input for future beers.
The brewery is owned by James H.Q. Lee. He is an attorney in Honolulu and also has his hands in some local restaurants.
Aloha Beer Co. is currently trying to relocate in Kakaako so you might be watching for them soon. Actually, you can still get Aloha beer in Hawaii, Scott found some Red Ale at a local liquor store recently. It is still being brewed in California and shipped over. We look forward to the return of Aloha in Hawaii.
This is an add, as in latest news. Word on the street has it that Hoku Brewing Co. and restaurant business is now for sale for $850.00. If you have that kind of money hanging around give it some thought. Who wouldn’t want to live and work in Hawaii?
