This is another post about the Hilo Brewfest. My introduction was here, videos were posted on the Hilo Video page and then a little about Kona Brewery.
Here are some more pictures from the 2015 Hilo Brewfest held recently by the bay. You can see lots of people munching down since the food was ono [delicious]. The hamburger sliders from Hilo Burger Joint and the pork and jalapeno sliders from Cronie’s were crowd favorites. The ap from Aloha Mondays was very classy and had seared Ahi tuna.
One local noodle shop had a little spoon with one shrimp in some kind of sauce and it was really good. We swung by that one about 4 times. The food was free and there was enough variety to satisfy most tastes. All in all, a very nice time.
Moving on to the beers, here are a couple that stood out among the many nice beers I had at the Hilo Brewfest. The very first one I had caught my eye because it said, Scotch Ale, which is usually a favorite. It was good but not great. I had been waiting in the hot sun and I needed to get one down me fast. My first real love for Scotch Ale came at Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe AZ on a trip back to my old home town. I had it fresh at the brewpub and it was amazing. Not much, or anything in that category, has lived up to it since. Even the same brew bought at a local super market in bottle was not nearly as good as the fresh on tap experience.
The Mandarina had the hint of mandarin orange and is from a Honolulu based brewer so it made it’s mark on me as a stand out drink. I was waiting to talk to a rep from Waikiki Brewers but there was a guy rambling on to him so I rambled myself as time and tide wait for no man. The beer was good though……I enjoyed it a lot. I may get to the site someday and see what they have going on in person.
